Meet Shane - AKA “The Artist”
About my journey in becoming an Interdisciplinary Artist
I've always had a passion for creating unique art. When I was young, I would spend my time drawing and painting. By the age of ten, I started working with wood, welding, and building things. I grew up on a farm, which provided me with many opportunities to acquire these skills at a young age. I had plenty of space on the farm to build whatever I wanted, and my parents encouraged me to do so. The only conditions were that I had to use scrap materials without taking them from something else and that my creations had to stay clear of vehicles and farm equipment. I believe this is where my love for this style of art originated. I grew up seeing potential in everything that was rusting in the dirt or hanging off a fence. It wasn't garbage or trash just because it no longer served its original purpose; it was my raw material, my treasure, and my creative lifeline. As I grow older, I continue to expand my love and interest in working with various materials.
In all my projects, I prioritize environmental friendliness by being zero waste. I incorporate as many reclaimed or repurposed materials as possible. From the raw materials to the adhesive used between the wood, I do my best to source eco-friendly and sustainable materials, ensuring that my creations have a minimal impact on the environment. I now incorporate aspects of wood, metal, texture, light, electronics, and sound into my artwork. Depending on what’s needed to convey my vision, some art pieces will incorporate all aspects or require me to learn a new art discipline. While many of my projects might only include one or two different aspects. I find immense joy in creating unique and one of a kind pieces of art.
**What is Interdisciplinary Art**
Interdisciplinary art refers to a practice that draws from two or more different disciplines and incorporates elements of those disciplines into a new, integrated work of art. It involves a fusion of different disciplines, where the boundaries between them are blurred and a new form is created that transcends the individual disciplines.
